Material Girl
“Cause we are living in a material world and I am a material girl.”
There used to be a dark time in my past when I’d give a person (usually a girl) a do-over and see if was wearing the right clothes and lived in the right village.
I was ignorant but I was also eleven.
So sometimes, it surprises me that a number of adults still hold on to this nasty habit of judging people based on where they live, the clothes they wear, the other socialites they hang out with and the latest Louis Vuitton handbag.
It’s quite sad really.
It’s a sad reality because everywhere you look, people befriend you not because of who you are or how you’re there for them during the tough times but just based on whether or not you get your clothes from Topshop and how much credit this new friend can give you in the social network.
We’ve been watching too many Molly Ringwald movies and some people never snap out of it.
The sad thing is I can also name a few guys who judge the girls they date based on what they can get out of the the girl: financially.
It used to be the other way around but now that women are gaining independence (or are coming from richer families), guys would rather depend on these rich girls than work.
It’s sad because people should be judged based on how they treat you or how loyal they are. These days these two traits are looked over for a richer friend.
I hope i’m not passing judgement but it is the truth that I’ve come to discover in the world today.
Let’s hope it changes for the better.
